About Us

September 2022:
To our Players, Players’ Families, Sponsors and Lawrence Township Community:
On behalf of our Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you the 48th season of the Lawrence Township Basketball League (LTBBL)! We thank you for choosing to participate and support our league; and hope you are enjoying the experience. From our humble beginnings of 6 teams in 1975, we have grown to serve approximately 600 boys and girls in our community by providing recreational and travel basketball leagues. We continue to recognize and reward the high achievement of our very own with our LTBBL Scholarship awarded each year to four Lawrence Township High School seniors and former league players (see scholarship information on our website). The goals or our league are to have players improve their basketball skills and physical fitness; while also learning important life skills such as hard work, discipline and teamwork. Most importantly we take our greatest joy in seeing our league foster a sense of community. We enjoy watching our participants take away new and lasting friendships with their fellow Lawrence Township Community members. We are very grateful to the following for making this all possible: LTBBL board members, all volunteers and parents who help as coaches, scorekeepers and supportive fans. The MSD of Lawrence Township of which we have a wonderful relationship by allowing us to utilize the school gyms for practice and games. Finally our community businesses partners whose generous sponsorship allows us to more cost effectively run our league. Please foster the league goals by supporting the games in a positive manner, and encourage our players to display a high level of sportsmanship before, during and after our games are completed. See you on the courts!
Respectfully yours,
Jeffrey J. Yu, LTBBL President

Dicks Sporting Goods

DICK’S Sporting Goods was founded in 1948 when an 18-year-old Dick Stack was working at an Army surplus store in Binghamton, New York. An avid fisherman, Dick was approached by the store owner to come up with a list of products needed to get into the fishing tackle business. After Dick presented his suggestions, the owner told him he was a dumb kid and had no idea what he was doing. Dick was upset and promptly quit. He went to his grandmother’s house where he spent a lot of time as a kid and told her what had happened. Dick’s grandmother asked how much it would cost to build the store himself. Dick said it would cost $300. His grandmother then went to the cookie jar where she kept her life savings and gave him $300 and told him, “Do it yourself.” Dick used that money and his relentless work-ethic to open a bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton. By the late 1970's, he expanded his product line to include much of what you’ll find at DICK’S Sporting Goods today.
